Keeping Healthy, Keeping Well Service
Homelessness - The Hidden Population
Homelessness is often defined as being ‘roofless’ or sleeping ‘rough’ on the streets, yet the reality is that many people experience the loss of their homes or live in temporary or insecure accommodation without ever sleeping on the streets. Consequently there are different groups of homeless people:
- Homeless families accepted and re-housed by local authorities
- Individuals who sleep rough or live in temporary accommodation, not accepted by local authorities and referred to the private sector
- People seeking asylum
- Those who are adequately housed, who face poor quality housing or over-crowding
The Health Needs Assessment will assist us in assessing the impact of the situation in deciding the service user's level of vulnerability and if our service is appropriate to address their needs.
Mission Statement
Bricklayers Drop-in
The Bricklayers Arms in Wigan Town Centre opened in July 2008, as the culmination of a long project by the Queens Hall Methodist Mission, to provide homeless and disadvantaged people with a dedicated place where they could recover.
Many are suffering from addictions and they enjoy the love and help that provide through the Project. The Project is transitional and is constantly incorporating new ways to help people.
